Elgin Ambulance

The City of Elgin is located 20 miles north of La Grande on highway 82 in the Blue Mountains of Northeast Oregon. The city limits of Elgin contain approximately 2000 year-round residents, with the surrounding rural area containing another 500-700 residents. The Blue Mountains are a great recreational area and throughout the year people come to our area to ski, fish, hunt, raft, snowmobile, hike and participate in many other outdoor activities which adds to the number of people we provide service to throughout the year.

Our Ambulance Service consists of 4 EMT-I's, 2 EMT-B's and 3 Driver all of which are volunteers. We provide ILS and BLS service within the city limits, the rural areas surrounding Elgin and also mutual aid to nearby fire departments and quick response units. Elgin Ambulance Service area covers over 600 square miles of mountains, valleys, farm fields and dirt roads. Elgin Ambulance has an average of 160 runs per year with each run lasting approximately 2-2 ½ hours including the 20 mile transport to Grande Ronde Hospital in La Grande OR.
